Visualising the City: Digital Twins and Beyond

Leveraging Collaboration to Deliver a Successful Tech Event and Collecting Industry Insights 

Event management and delivery:

In January 2024, I played a key role in the event management and delivery of "Visualising the City: Digital Twins and Beyond," a collaborative event with the Manchester Digital Strategy Research Network team at Manchester City Council. Some of my responsibilities include:

  • Speaker & team management 
  • Venue & catering booking 
  • Logistic and event planning  
  • Promotion and communications 
  • Onsite supervision  

Outcomes 

  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitated a platform for knowledge exchange on the latest trends in city visualization using digital technologies (AR/VR, digital twins etc.).
  • Collaboration & Networking: Fostered connections between academics and public sector professionals, promoting potential future collaborations on city visualization projects.
  • Actionable Insights: Provided a forum for brainstorming and identifying key challenges and opportunities for using visualization to improve Manchester in areas like city planning, resident engagement, and sustainability. This has also allowed us to gauge community and receive industry and academic insights.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Increased engagement with key stakeholders (academics & public sector) within Digital Futures theme - Cities and Environments.
  • Community Building: Increased Digital Futures' Cities and Environment Community by 5.7%.
  • Knowledge Dissemination: Successfully disseminated knowledge on the potential of digital visualization technologies for improving Manchester.

- To develop concrete use cases for visualisation projects that could be implemented in Manchester across the key Digital Strategy themes of people, place, and sustainability.

- To strengthen relationships and collaboration between academic and public sector professionals working on city visualisation.

World Cafe Outputs:

- A list of key challenges and opportunities for using visualisation to improve city planning, design, resident engagement, and management in Manchester across the key Digital Strategy themes of people, place, and sustainability.

- A set of concrete use cases for visualisation projects that could be implemented in Manchester across the key Digital Strategy themes of people, place, and sustainability.

- A network of academic and public sector professionals working on city visualisation in Manchester who are committed to collaborating on future projects.
